◢ One approval unlocks many

Benefits crosswalk.

Most means-tested programs use the same income tests. Once you are approved for one, you often auto-qualify for several more — but you have to apply. This is the map.

◢ How auto-enrollment works

Categorical eligibility, plain English.

Federal law allows agencies to skip the income verification step when an applicant is already certified for another means-tested program at a similar or lower income threshold. This is called categorical eligibility — your existing approval becomes the proof.

The catch: most categorical pathways require you to apply. You do not automatically receive the second benefit just because you qualify. The exception is direct certification, used for school meals (children in SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid households are auto-enrolled by the school district without a paper application).

Below is the practical crosswalk: if you have program X, here are the programs Y, Z, and W that you are likely eligible for and how to claim them.
