Social Security Payment Schedule November 2026: Every Date by Birthday
Every Social Security and SSI payment date for November 2026 by birthday, why the November 11 payment moves to November 10, December dates, and the full 2027 schedule.

The short version
On the Social Security payment schedule for November 2026, payments go out on November 10 (birthdays 1st to 10th, moved up for Veterans Day), November 18 (11th to 20th) and November 25 (21st to 31st). The 3rd-of-the-month group is paid November 3, and SSI for November arrives October 30.
Your date on the Social Security payment schedule depends on three things: your birthday, when you first got benefits, and whether you also get SSI. In November 2026, payments go out on October 30, November 3, November 10, November 18 and November 25.
One date is unusual this month. Veterans Day falls on the second Wednesday, so people born on the 1st through 10th are paid a day early, on Tuesday, November 10. This guide lists every date for November and December 2026 and the full 2027 schedule.
Key Takeaways
- Born on the 1st to 10th: paid Tuesday, November 10, 2026, a day early because November 11 is Veterans Day.
- Born on the 11th to 20th: paid Wednesday, November 18. Born on the 21st to 31st: paid Wednesday, November 25.
- Filed for benefits before May 1, 1997, or you get both Social Security and SSI: paid Tuesday, November 3.
- SSI for November arrives Friday, October 30, because November 1 is a Sunday.
- Any 2027 COLA first shows up in January 2027 payments. SSI recipients would get it on December 31, 2026.
Social Security payment schedule for November 2026
In November 2026, Social Security pays on Tuesday, November 3, Tuesday, November 10, Wednesday, November 18 and Wednesday, November 25. SSI for November arrives early, on Friday, October 30. Your date depends on your birthday and when your benefits started, per the SSA payment calendar for 2026.
| Who | Normal rule | November 2026 date |
|---|---|---|
| SSI recipients | 1st of the month | Friday, October 30 (November 1 is a Sunday) |
| 3rd-of-the-month group (filed before May 1997, SS plus SSI, state pays Medicare premiums, living abroad) | 3rd of the month | Tuesday, November 3 |
| Birthday on the 1st to 10th | Second Wednesday | Tuesday, November 10 (November 11 is Veterans Day) |
| Birthday on the 11th to 20th | Third Wednesday | Wednesday, November 18 |
| Birthday on the 21st to 31st | Fourth Wednesday | Wednesday, November 25 |
The main groups paid on the 3rd are in the next section. The list is longer than most people expect, and it includes anyone whose state pays their Medicare premiums.
Why the November 11 payment comes on November 10
Social Security never pays on a weekend or federal holiday. When a payment date lands on one, SSA pays on the business day before, per its weekend and holiday rule. November 11, 2026 is Veterans Day and a Wednesday, so the second-Wednesday payment moves to Tuesday, November 10.
The same rule moves SSI. November 1, 2026 is a Sunday, so SSI for November is paid on Friday, October 30. That money is your November SSI, not an extra October payment, so budget it for November.
Thanksgiving, November 26, does not touch any payment date this year. The fourth-Wednesday payment lands the day before, on November 25, as scheduled.
Social Security payment schedule for October 2026
October 2026 payments go out on Thursday, October 1 (SSI), Friday, October 2 (the 3rd-of-the-month group, because October 3 is a Saturday), and Wednesdays October 14, 21 and 28 for birthday groups. Columbus Day, October 12, does not move any payment.
SSI recipients get a second deposit at the end of the month, on Friday, October 30. That one is the November payment paid early, not extra money.
How Social Security picks your payment date
If you filed for benefits on or after May 1, 1997, your payment day comes from your birthday. Born on the 1st to 10th, you are paid on the second Wednesday; the 11th to 20th, the third Wednesday; the 21st to 31st, the fourth Wednesday, per SSA’s payment cycle rules.
SSA uses the birthday of the worker whose record you are paid on, not always yours. If you get spousal, survivor or child benefits on someone else’s record, your payment day follows that worker’s birthday, per SSA’s guide for people getting retirement or survivors benefits.
A spouse born on the 25th who draws on a worker born on the 4th is paid on the second Wednesday.
If you are new to benefits on a late spouse’s or parent’s record, our guide to Social Security survivor benefits covers who qualifies and how much they pay.
Some people stay on the old 3rd-of-the-month schedule, which was the only schedule before June 1997. Per the Social Security Handbook, section 121, you are paid on the 3rd if you:
- filed for benefits before May 1, 1997;
- get both Social Security and SSI, or your income is counted toward someone’s SSI;
- have your Medicare premiums paid by your state;
- live in another country;
- get garnished or tax levy payments, or payments sent through SSA’s critical payment system; or
- are paid on the same record as someone in one of these groups.
If you are paid on the 3rd, the Handbook says you can ask to move to a birthday Wednesday, but only if everyone paid on your record agrees, and the switch is permanent.
SSI has its own day: the 1st of the month. If you get both, SSI comes on the 1st and Social Security on the 3rd, as printed on the 2027 SSA calendar. For what SSI pays and who qualifies, see our SSI income limit guide.
Do SSDI payments follow the same schedule?
Yes. Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is a Social Security benefit, so it uses the same birthday cycles: the second, third or fourth Wednesday, or the 3rd of the month if you also get SSI or filed before May 1997. SSA’s payment cycle data covers both the retirement and disability programs.
SSI is the one with a different day. If you get only SSI, you are paid on the 1st, or the business day before. Not sure which one you get? Our SSI vs SSDI guide explains the difference.
Which month is each payment for?
Social Security pays one month behind. SSA says benefits “are paid in the month that follows the month for which they are due,” so the money you get in November 2026 is your October benefit, per SSA Publication 05-10077.
SSI works differently: it is paid on the 1st of the month it is due, per Handbook section 121.5. That is why the SSI deposit on October 30 counts as November’s payment, while a Wednesday deposit in November is your October Social Security benefit.
The one-month lag also explains the COLA timing below. The raise starts with the benefit for December, and December’s benefit arrives in January.
When your first Social Security payment arrives
When you apply for retirement, you pick the month your benefits start, and your first payment arrives the month after that one, per SSA’s page on timing your first payment. You can apply up to 4 months before the month you pick.
Choose a start month of January 2027, for example, and your first payment comes in February 2027, on the Wednesday that matches your birthday in the 2027 table below. Apply in the fall if you want no gap between a last paycheck and your first benefit.
Social Security payment schedule for December 2026
December 2026 has no holiday shifts for the Wednesday payments: December 9, 16 and 23. SSI is paid Tuesday, December 1, and the 3rd-of-the-month group is paid Thursday, December 3. SSI recipients also get their January 2027 payment early, on Thursday, December 31.
| Who | December 2026 date |
|---|---|
| SSI recipients | Tuesday, December 1 |
| 3rd-of-the-month group | Thursday, December 3 |
| Birthday on the 1st to 10th | Wednesday, December 9 |
| Birthday on the 11th to 20th | Wednesday, December 16 |
| Birthday on the 21st to 31st | Wednesday, December 23 |
| SSI for January 2027 | Thursday, December 31 |
| 3rd-of-the-month group, January 2027 | Thursday, December 31 |
Why two December 31 payments? January 1, 2027 is New Year’s Day and January 3 is a Sunday. With January 1 and 2 both off the table, the January SSI and the January 3rd-of-the-month payment both move back to the last business day of 2026.
That makes December a two-payment month for SSI and leaves January 2027 with none. Both of those December 31 payments will include any 2027 cost-of-living adjustment. SSA sets a COLA only when inflation rises, per its COLA page.
When the 2027 COLA hits your check
The Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes September inflation data on October 14, 2026, according to its CPI release schedule. That is the last number Social Security needs to set the 2027 cost-of-living adjustment (COLA).
The raise does not show up in November or December. Since 1983, COLAs have taken effect with benefits payable for December, which people receive in January, per SSA’s COLA history page. For 2026, SSI recipients got the increase on December 31, 2025.
The same timing applies this year. If there is a COLA, your first bigger Social Security payment is your January 2027 payment, on the January date in the table below. SSI recipients and the 3rd-of-the-month group see it on December 31, 2026.
The full January amount also depends on Medicare. If your Part B premium is taken out of your check, your January payment can also change with the 2027 premium.
For people with Medicare, SSA shows the new benefit amount in a COLA notice in December, per its COLA page. Our Medicare Part B premium guide covers how that works.
Social Security payment schedule 2027
In 2027, the Wednesday payments run as usual all year; no second, third or fourth Wednesday falls on a federal holiday. The early payments are for SSI and the 3rd-of-the-month group, in months where the 1st or 3rd falls on a weekend or holiday.
| Month | SSI | 3rd of month group | Born 1st to 10th | Born 11th to 20th | Born 21st to 31st |

Sources: SSA, Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments 2027, checked date by date against OPM’s 2027 federal holidays. SSI for January 2028 is paid on December 30, 2027, because December 31, 2027 is the observed New Year’s Day holiday.
We built this table from SSA’s two published rules (birthday cycles and the weekend and holiday shift) and then checked each date against SSA’s printed 2027 calendar. Every date matched.
Months when the money comes early
Between now and the end of 2027, SSI is paid in the month before on five occasions: October 30, 2026 (for November), December 31, 2026 (January), April 30, 2027 (May), July 30, 2027 (August) and December 30, 2027 (January 2028).
This is why some people on SSI see two deposits in one month, such as October 2026 (October 1 and October 30) and December 2026 (December 1 and December 31).
An early deposit is next month’s money paid ahead of time, so the following month has no SSI deposit. People on SSI who pay rent on the 1st should set the early deposit aside for it.
The 3rd-of-the-month group gets the same treatment, less often. In 2027 its payment moves earlier in January (to December 31, 2026), April, July and October.
What to do if your payment does not arrive
SSA’s calendar says to allow three more mailing days after your expected date before contacting Social Security. For a direct deposit, check with your bank first, since a deposit can post later in the day than you expect.
- Check the right date. Confirm your cycle in the tables above, using the insured worker’s birthday if you get benefits on someone else’s record.
- Ask your bank. Ask whether a federal deposit is pending or was returned.
- Call SSA. If the money is still missing, call 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), or sign in to your my Social Security account.
Paper checks are being phased out. Under Executive Order 14247, federal benefits must be paid electronically as of September 30, 2025, and SSA said in June 2026 that it plans to finish the switch for all beneficiaries this year, per the SSA blog.
If you still get a check, add direct deposit in your my Social Security account. No bank account? The Direct Express prepaid debit card works too: call 1-800-967-6857. If going electronic is not possible for you, you can ask the Treasury for a waiver at 1-877-874-6347.
Scammers also use payment dates as a hook, with calls about a “missed” or “suspended” check. Asking you to pay with gift cards or wire transfers is a scam sign, per SSA’s scam page. Our scam watch page lists the current patterns.
November 2026 dates at a glance
For November 2026, look for your money on November 3, 10, 18 or 25, depending on your birthday and when you filed for benefits, and look for SSI on October 30. The Veterans Day shift moves only the November 10 group.
December brings two December 31 payments for SSI and the 3rd-of-the-month group, both with any 2027 COLA. Any raise arrives with the January payment. SSA sets it from third-quarter inflation data, and BLS releases the September figures on October 14.

SSI for November is due on Sunday, November 1, so Social Security pays it early, on Friday, October 30. That is November's money, not an extra payment, and there is no SSI deposit in November. The same thing happens in December: January's SSI arrives December 31, 2026.
SSI is due on the 1st, and November 1, 2026 is a Sunday. Social Security pays on the business day before a weekend or holiday, so November's SSI arrives Friday, October 30. It is your November payment, so there is no second SSI deposit in November.
No. Veterans Day, November 11, 2026, is a federal holiday and falls on the second Wednesday. People born on the 1st to 10th are paid the business day before, Tuesday, November 10.
In your January 2027 payment. The Bureau of Labor Statistics releases September inflation data on October 14, 2026, which Social Security uses to set the COLA. SSI recipients and the 3rd-of-the-month group get their January payment, with any raise, on December 31, 2026.
If you get benefits on your spouse's work record, your payment date follows your spouse's birthday. Social Security bases the date on the birth date of the worker whose record pays the benefit.
