Quick answer: Florida's Department of Children and Families runs SNAP through MyACCESS and lets most households earn up to 200% of poverty, $5,500 a month for four from October 2026.

Since April 20, 2026 the card cannot buy soda, energy drinks, candy or shelf-stable prepared desserts, and deposits are spread from the 1st to the 28th.

Eligibility

Florida's 200% gross line and the households held to 130%

Florida's line sits at 200% of the 2026 poverty guidelines. Line up what your household makes each month, before taxes, with the left-hand amounts; net limits and top benefits shown beside them were reset October 1, 2026.

HouseholdGross limit (200%)Net limitMax benefit
1 person$2,660$1,330$306
2 people$3,607$1,804$562
3 people$4,554$2,277$808
4 people$5,500$2,750$1,023
5 people$6,447$3,224$1,217
6 people$7,394$3,697$1,463
7 people$8,340$4,170$1,616
8 people$9,287$4,644$1,841

Each extra person adds $947 to the gross limit, $474 to the net limit and $225 to the maximum benefit.

Gross limit rule: USDA FNA: Broad-Based Categorical Eligibility chart (June 2026). Net limits and maximum benefits: USDA Food and Nutrition Administration FY2027 standards. Verified October 18, 2026.

On FNA's June 2026 chart, Florida extends categorical eligibility to every household at up to 200% of poverty and attaches no asset cap. A household it does not cover, such as one with a disqualified member, falls back to 130%: $1,729 for a household of one and $3,575 for four.

DCF's eligibility page sets the line at 200% of poverty, but its posted fact sheet still carries October 2024 dollar amounts. The table applies 200% to the 2026 federal poverty guidelines, rounded up; DCF's own figure for a size may differ by a dollar.

Meeting the income limit does not guarantee benefits. Your amount is figured from net income after deductions, so a household near the limit may get a small benefit or none.

A Jacksonville family of 5 with $4,200 a month in wages and $1,650 rent that includes utilities
  1. 1Their pay is above the 130% line for five people ($4,191) but below Florida's 200% line of $6,447, so DCF goes on to build a budget instead of stopping at the gross test.
  2. 2DCF knocks $840 (a fifth of the paycheck) off the earnings, subtracts a $268 standard deduction for a five-person home, and arrives at $3,092. Rent of $1,650 is more than half of that ($1,546), and the difference, $104, becomes the shelter deduction.
  3. 3The family's net income works out to $2,988. DCF takes 30% of it, $897, away from the $1,217 maximum for five people, so roughly $320 would post to this family's EBT account each month.

The card pays for groceries and seeds or plants that grow food, not alcohol, tobacco, vitamins, hot prepared food, pet food or household supplies.

Payment schedule

SNAP lands between the 1st and the 28th, by two case-number digits

Florida staggers SNAP over the first 28 calendar days of every month, weekends and holidays included.

Your day comes from the eighth and ninth digits of your Florida case number, so two households on the same street can be paid weeks apart. EBT Customer Service, 1-888-356-3281, will tell you your date.

Unused benefits roll over from month to month, but an account with no purchases or returns for 274 days expires. Florida EBT cards no longer carry an expiration date, and a replacement card arrives in 5 to 7 business days.

Get started

MyACCESS online, a Family Resource Center, or a community partner

Apply for free online through the MyACCESS self-service portal, at a DCF Family Resource Center, or with help from an ESS Community Partner near you. DCF says most people finish the online application in about 30 minutes.

DCF first decides whether you need an interview; if so, expect questions about your household and identity. Under DCF policy an expedited interview is set within three working days, and federal rules (7 CFR 273.2(i)(3)) require benefits by the seventh calendar day after you apply.

Send proof of identity and of citizenship or noncitizen status by mail, by fax, by uploading it to MyACCESS, or at a local office or community partner, then allow 3 days for your account to show it arrived.

DCF can take up to 30 days to finish an application, longer when a disability determination is needed. Check progress in MyACCESS at any hour or on the automated line, (850) 300-4323.

Healthy SNAP: the soda, candy and energy drink ban since April 20, 2026

Florida received federal approval for a SNAP food restriction waiver, and it took effect April 20, 2026. Since then, soda, energy drinks, candy and ultra-processed, shelf-stable prepared desserts cannot be bought with SNAP anywhere in the state.

FNA still lists Florida's waiver as approved on its tracker updated October 13, 2026. The June 22, 2026 court order in Aragon v. Rollins vacated the waivers for Colorado, Iowa, Tennessee and West Virginia only, so Florida's rules keep applying.

The rest of the federal food list still applies: breads, cereals, fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, poultry, dairy, and plants and seeds that grow food all remain eligible, while alcohol, tobacco, hot foods and non-food items stay excluded.

How Florida's 200% line works with the federal tests

DCF's eligibility rules say most households must have gross income at or under 200% of the federal poverty level. That ceiling comes from broad-based categorical eligibility, which FNA's chart applies to every Florida household with no asset limit attached.

Passing the gross test is only step one. DCF then subtracts deductions for earnings, shelter, dependent care, medical costs over $35 for elderly or disabled members, and child support paid, and works out a benefit from what is left.

SUNCAP: food assistance that rides on your SSI claim

SUNCAP is Florida's simplified SNAP for people who get SSI, are at least 18, are not working, and buy and prepare food alone. Your SSI interview doubles as the SUNCAP interview, there are no extra forms, and you recertify every three years through your SSI renewal.

You can ask for regular SNAP instead if regular budgeting would give you more, for example when you pay over $35 a month in out-of-pocket medical costs or over $800 a month in rent, mortgage or property taxes. Switching from regular SNAP to SUNCAP can take up to 90 days.

SUNCAP cases cannot get expedited benefits or a partial first month. If you already get SSI but no food assistance, contact the SUNCAP Unit at 850-300-4323 or P.O. Box 1770, Ocala, FL 34478-1770.

Florida's mandatory E&T referral and the 3-month time limit

Florida does not wait for the time limit to push work. DCF refers adults 18 to 59 who must meet work rules to FloridaCommerce and their local CareerSource center as mandatory participants in SNAP Employment and Training, at 80 hours a month.

A DCF notice names the household members who must take part, and FloridaCommerce then mails an Employment and Training Referral Letter with orientation steps. Keep a valid mailing address on file with both agencies so these letters reach you.

You have a good reason not to take part if you are under 16 or 65 or older, care for a child under 6 or an incapacitated person, are in drug or alcohol treatment, study at least half-time, or already work 30 hours a week or earn $217.50 a week.

Separately, adults 18 to 64 who can work and are not caring for a child under 14 count toward the federal 3-month limit. FNA's July 1, 2026 waiver list shows Florida with no waived areas.

The two changes Florida makes you report mid-certification

DCF lists two changes a household must report between renewals: total monthly gross income going over 130% of the poverty level for your household size, and work hours for an able-bodied adult falling below 80 a month.

Either change must be reported within 10 days after the end of the month in which it happened. The fastest way is the MyACCESS portal, which also takes document uploads at any hour.

Appealing a DCF decision: 90 days from the Notice of Case Action

For SNAP, you must request a fair hearing within 90 days of the Notice of Case Action. Write to the Appeal Hearings Section, 2415 North Monroe Street, Suite 400-I, Tallahassee, FL 32303-4190, email appeal.hearings@myflfamilies.com, call (850) 488-1429, or use the online form.

Hearings are held by telephone conference call unless you ask for an in-person hearing.

Only in Florida

Florida specifics: no SUN Bucks, who is barred, child support

Florida is not on FNA's list of 2026 Summer EBT states, so Florida children did not get the $120 SUN Bucks payment that participating states issued this summer.

Some people are shut out of Florida SNAP entirely: anyone convicted of drug trafficking, anyone fleeing a felony warrant, people who broke program rules on purpose, noncitizens without a qualified status, and some half-time college students.

Florida also requires certain applicants to cooperate with the state's child support enforcement agency. Court-ordered child support you pay to someone outside the household can be deducted in the SNAP budget.

Assets only count after a disqualification: Most Florida households can own vehicles, bank accounts or property and still qualify. Where one member has been disqualified for breaking program rules, drug trafficking, fleeing a felony warrant or skipping a work program, the household faces a $3,000 limit.

DCF pages list $4,500 if someone is elderly or disabled; USDA's FY2027 standard is $4,750.

Frequently asked questions

What Floridians ask DCF about SNAP

From October 1, 2026 the maximum is $306 for one person, $562 for two, $808 for three, $1,023 for four and $1,217 for five. DCF subtracts 30% of your net income from that maximum, so most working households get less. Eligible one- and two-person households get at least $25.

Often, yes. DCF refers adults 18 to 59 who are not excused to SNAP Employment and Training through CareerSource, 80 hours a month. Adults 18 to 64 who can work and do not care for a child under 14 also face the 3-month federal limit, and Florida has no waived areas.

No. Since April 20, 2026, Florida's Healthy SNAP waiver bars soda, energy drinks, candy and ultra-processed, shelf-stable prepared desserts. FNA's tracker updated October 13, 2026 still lists the waiver as approved, and the June 2026 court ruling did not cover Florida.

Most households must have gross monthly income at or under 200% of the federal poverty level. Applied to the 2026 guidelines, that is about $2,660 a month for one person and $5,500 for four. Households with a disqualified member are held to 130% and an asset limit.

Somewhere from the 1st to the 28th, set by the eighth and ninth digits of your Florida case number. The day stays the same each month, weekends and holidays included. Call EBT Customer Service at 1-888-356-3281 to hear your date.

If you get SSI, are 18 or older, do not work, and buy and cook alone, SUNCAP can give you SNAP with no separate application, forms or interview. Recertification happens every three years with your SSI. You may stay on regular SNAP if you pay over $35 in medical costs or over $800 in housing costs.

Not in 2026. Florida is not among the states on FNA's 2026 Summer EBT list, so there was no $120 summer grocery benefit for Florida children this year.

Request a fair hearing within 90 days of the Notice of Case Action. You can call the Appeal Hearings Section at (850) 488-1429, email appeal.hearings@myflfamilies.com, mail your request to Tallahassee, or use DCF's online form. Hearings are usually by phone.

Not for most households. Only a household with a member disqualified for a rule violation, drug trafficking, a felony warrant or skipping a work program faces one: $3,000, and a higher limit if someone is elderly or disabled ($4,500 on DCF's pages, $4,750 in USDA's FY2027 standards).
